Former U.S. Attorney General and Federal Judge Michael Mukasey Joins the American Freedom Law Center’s Advisory Board

Washington, D.C. (December 13, 2013) — The American Freedom Law Center (AFLC), a national, nonprofit Judeo-Christian law firm, is honored to announce that Michael B. Mukasey has joined its Advisory Board.  Judge Mukasey served as the 81st Attorney General of the United States from November 2007 to January 2009.  As Attorney General, he oversaw all activities of the Justice Department, including advising on critical issues of domestic and international law.

From 1988 to 2006, he served as a district judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, becoming chief judge in 2000.  While on the bench, he handled numerous cases, including the trial of Omar Abdel Rahman, the so-called “blind sheikh,” and nine co-defendants convicted of a wide-ranging conspiracy that included the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and a later plot to blow up New York landmarks, including the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, the United Nations, and the FBI’s New York headquarters in lower Manhattan; and the case of Jose Padilla, arrested on a material witness warrant and believed to have returned to the United States to detonate a high-radiation bomb and to blow up apartment buildings by sealing the apartments, filling them with gas, and then detonating them.

Judge Mukasey joins fellow board member Andrew C. McCarthy, the former federal prosecutor at the criminal trial of the “Blind Sheikh,” over which Judge Mukasey presided; former CIA director, Ambassador R. James Woolsey; former Reagan administration official Frank J. Gaffney; former Inspector General of the Department of Defense Joseph E. Schmitz; and Charles E. Rice, Professor Emeritus at Notre Dame Law School.

Judge Mukasey remarked: “I am very pleased to join the American Freedom Law Center’s Advisory Board.  Individually and as a team, Robert Muise and David Yerushalmi represent the highest standards of the legal profession.  Moreover, they are courageous leaders who have seized their opportunity to uphold the Constitution and to confront the ever persistent Civilization Jihad waged right here at home by the Muslim Brotherhood and its fellow travelers.  America cannot ask for better advocates in the courts.”

David Yerushalmi, AFLC Co-Founder and Senior Counsel, commented: “We are deeply honored that Judge Mukasey has elected to sit on our advisory board.  Indeed, his expert knowledge and legal acumen will be a tremendous asset to our mission.”

Robert Muise, AFLC Co-Founder and Senior Counsel, commented: “As George Washington once said, ‘The administration of justice is the firmest pillar of government.’  Judge Mukasey has uniquely strengthened and honored that pillar his entire career.”
