It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of our friend and longtime Advisory Board member, R. James “Jim” Woolsey, former Director of Central Intelligence.
Jim devoted his life to the service of the United States. Whether as Director of Central Intelligence, Under Secretary of the Navy, ambassador, attorney, scholar, or trusted national security advisor, he brought extraordinary intellect, unwavering integrity, and steadfast courage to every endeavor. His love of country was unmistakable, and his commitment to protecting the freedoms that define America never wavered.
Jim’s service to the American Freedom Law Center reflected those same qualities. As a valued member of our Advisory Board, he generously shared his wisdom, sound judgment, and unwavering support for our mission to defend the Constitution, protect individual liberty, and safeguard America’s national security.
David Yerushalmi also had the distinct privilege of working closely with Jim as a co-author of Shariah: The Threat to America, the Center for Security Policy’s landmark Team B II Report. Their collaboration reflected Jim’s remarkable analytical mind, his willingness to confront difficult issues with intellectual honesty, and his deep commitment to defending the United States against emerging threats. That professional relationship grew into a valued friendship that David cherished for many years.
To us, Jim was far more than a distinguished public servant. He was a trusted advisor, a respected colleague, and a dear friend. His counsel strengthened our work, his example inspired us, and his steadfast commitment to principle never failed to encourage us.
Jim Woolsey leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of patriotism, public service, and devotion to the ideals that have made America a beacon of liberty. His life reminds us that freedom endures only because men and women of courage, conviction, and integrity dedicate themselves to its defense.
We extend our deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Conchita, his family, and all who were privileged to know him. We are grateful for Jim’s friendship, honored by his service to AFLC, and committed to carrying forward the principles he so faithfully championed.
May Jim Woolsey rest in peace, and may his memory forever be a blessing.
