American Freedom Law Center Launches "Faith and Freedom Report"
The American Freedom Law Center has officially launched its “Faith and Freedom Report.”AFLC will be posting periodic video blogs to keep patriotic Americans like you up to date on its cases and informed about the important issues affecting your faith and freedom across our great Nation.
In this first report, AFLC Co-Founder and Senior Counsel Robert Muise discusses AFLC’s constitutional challenge to Obama’s “contraceptive” mandate.AFLC filed a federal lawsuit on February 15, 2012, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on behalf of Priests for Life, an international, pro-life, Catholic organization.Priests for Life objects to the mandate because it forces this religious organization to provide its employees with contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients as part of its healthcare plan. This mandate is contrary to the deeply held religious beliefs of Priests for Life and thus violates the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment.
Additionally, the government-imposed mandate requires Priests for Life to provide education and counseling on contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients. This aspect of the mandate compels Priests for Life to engage in speech contrary to its deeply held religious beliefs in violation of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment.
